Multi-domain certificates are available with both domain verification, organization verification, and extended verification (with a green line). The verification process depends on the type of certificate:
1. When choosing a certificate with domain verification, each domain is checked separately: one domain - one letter (in the case of verification by email) or one domain - one verification file in the root of the site (in the case of verification via HTTP). For example: you specified the main domain as domain.com and additional domains as example.net and subdomain.website.ru:
When validating by email, you select a common element of email addresses to which you would like to receive confirmation emails, for example, admin@. This means that confirmation letters will be sent to all specified domains, in this case to the addresses: admin@domain.com, admin@example.net and admin@subdomain.website.ru. An individual letter is sent to each address, by which you must confirm the order for issuing an SSL certificate.
After the Certification Center receives all responses (in this case, three), the certificate itself will be sent to the address specified in the administrative contact.
b. When validating via HTTP, a special file will need to be placed at the root of each site. This means that the file will have to be located via links, in our case:
http://domain.com/test_file_name.txt
http://example.net/test_file_name.txt
http://subdomain.website.ru/check_file_name.txt
2. During extended verification (EV certificates), as well as organizational verification (OV certificates) in the case of a multi-domain certificate, the Certification Authority will request to provide documents confirming that all specified domains belong to one organization. Those. in our case, all three domains: domain.com, example.net and subdomain.website.ru must belong to the same organization.
